Elo rating

Elo is a number that measures a team's or player's level and updates after every match: it rises with a win and falls with a loss, more so the bigger the surprise. Adjusted for opponent quality, it anchors the model's strength.

Example

Beating a very high-Elo opponent raises your rating more than beating a weak one. In tennis we compute it by surface.
